Career details
David Alaba was born on June 24, 1992 in Vienna. The son of a Filipino mother and Nigerian father, Alaba climbed his first steps on the footballing ladder when he left local side Club SV Aspern to join FK Austria aged just ten. An aspiring forward at the time, Alaba made the dream move to FC Bayern Munich in the summer of 2008. Former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal spotted Alaba’s true potential as a roaming left-back and, two years later, the Austrian celebrated not only his Bundesliga debut in the 1-1 draw at 1.FC Koln, but went on to become the youngest ever player to feature for the record titleholders in the Champions League. An invaluable loan spell at 1899 Hoffenheim followed, as did a regular place in the international side, with the 2011 and 2012 Austrian Player of the Year having been capped 24 times to date.

• Alaba has made ten appearances in this season’s Champions League - eight at left-back and two in midfield - scoring twice and chipping in with two assists.
• He scored the fifth-fastest goal in Champions League history to set FC Bayern Munich on their way to a commanding 2-0 victory over Juventus in their quarter-final first leg at the Allianz Arena.
• Alaba set up a goal in both semi-final legs against FC Barcelona.
• He clocked up 752 minutes of action before committing his first foul.
• In the 2011/12 semi-final second leg against Real Madrid, Alaba displayed nerves of steel as he fired home the first spot-kick in the decisive shootout. Unfortunately for Bayern, he missed the final against Chelsea through suspension.
