Munich - One final, two Bundesliga clubs, 22 gladiators: These players will determine the outcome of the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League decider between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium on 25 May.
bundesliga.com outlines the careers and key facts of the protagonists.
Career Stats
Arjen Robben's rise to the very top of the world game began gathering momentum at Dutch top-flight side FC Groningen, who had plucked him from hometown club VV Bedum at the age of 12. The attacking midfielder's pace, dynamism, speed of thought and eye for goal soon prompted PSV Eindhoven to make a move for the then 18-year-old, and it was during his two years with PSV that he also made his debut for the Dutch national team. In 2004 he moved on to Chelsea FC and three years further down the line, Real Madrid CF enticed him to swap the Premier League for La Liga.
In the early days of the 2009/10 campaign, FC Bayern Munich swooped out of the blue and Robben was packing his bags for yet another major European league. Recurring injury problems notwithstanding, he has been a stand-out performer for the Munich outfit ever since. As well as being voted Player of the Season at the end of his first campaign in Germany, the Dutch ace earned a place in the UEFA Team of the Year for 2011.
After an injury-blighted first half of the 2012/13 season, Robben knuckled down and kept his patience to become a regular in Jupp Heynckes' side towards the back end of the campaign, making him a strong candidate for a place at Wembley.
