Chelsea to Launch £25m Bid for Bayern Munich Striker Mario Gomez

Mario Gomez

Incoming Chelsea boss targets German striker.
Jose Mourinho is plotting a £25million bid for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez if he returns as Chelsea manager this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese coach has been confirmed as leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, and is expected to return to his old club Chelsea after emerging as the club’s top target to replace interim manager Rafael Benitez.
The 50-year-old has been unhappy at Madrid this season, and has already been making plans for Chelsea’s moves in the summer transfer window, reportedly plotting raids on his current club for the likes of Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso.
The Blues are also in desperate need of a new striker, as they look to replace the misfiring Fernando Torres. The likes of Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao have previously been linked, while Mourinho is also a fan of Borussia Dortmund frontman Robert Lewandowski.
However, Lewandowski looks certain to be joining Bayern Munich, which could free up German international Mario Gomez for a move to Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old has not been a regular for Bayern this season, despite scoring an incredible 41 goals for the club the season before. He is still known to be a lethal finisher and Mourinho hopes he will be available this summer.
