Career details
Manuel Neuer was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on 27 March, 1986. At just five years of age, the now 1,93m tall goalkeeper joined FC Schalke 04 where he was promoted through the Royal Blues’ youth ranks before making his Bundesliga debut on 19 August 2006 in place of injured first-choice keeper Frank Rost. Following the winter break that season, Neuer gradually asserted himself as the new No 1 under then head coach Mirko Slomka despite being just 20 years old. After making 156 appearances for Schalke, Neuer opted to join FC Bayern Munich ahead of the 2011/12 campaign, having established himself as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the German national team during the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The current Bundesliga campaign, marks Neuer’s first as a title-winning player.
